Chibichasechan 1 June This movie was good, but it wasn't the best to end up the amazing FMA series. This movie had many plot holes, and if you watch it throughly you will understand what I am talking about.
Good overall, animation was good, characters were good, and I absolutely LOVE the way they put it in our actual history and include the holocaust, and how they included an animated Hitler.
It was a very good way to reference to the disaster. But every good movie I believe must have some horrible or bad part and something to criticize it. LIke for example, read the name of this comment. The ending. A very cliff hanger ending, left you hanging there. Al was being stupid and went with Edward across the gate.
What will the people think in the alchemist world of him? A plot hole occurs doing the ending, how they both mention about trying to destroy the gate, but they cant use alchemy in our world, so why bother? Just stay in your world and destroy the portal. Many things like that did not make sense to me at all, and kinda left me at a angry state.
The creators COULD of made this better, and could of made the story a little bit better, with fewer plot holes and more explaining. But good movie overall.
The movie is a direct follow-up of the series and gives resolution to many of the conflicts that remained at the end of the show. The story follows Edward Elric, a young alchemist, stuck in a parallel world and trying to find his way home. Driven to be reunited with his friends and family, Edward must face new adversaries who also want to travel to his home-world, but for much more nefarious reasons. This movie is a fan feast, with characters brought back from the series along with answering a lot of the questions we were left with at the end of the show.
Full of fun action scenes, great animation, some funny moments, and a story with a surprising amount of depth, Conqueror of Shamballa is a great movie to top off the series.
The story ties into real-life history, making the story all the more enjoyable. The movie also ends strong with a very exciting climax. Despite this, Conqueror of Shamballa suffers from a common problem with anime: melodrama. Over-the-top, obnoxious personalities occasionally contrast from the serious story line. Another problem with this movie is that it does not stand alone. You must watch the series, otherwise you're just seeing the last chapter to another story.
This prevents outsiders from enjoying this anime. Also, while fun for the most part and having an exciting final act, the movie is boring and drags on through the second act. Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa is a fun movie overall, and a must-watch for any who enjoyed the series. With a great story and plenty for the fans, watching this movie is a perfect way to finish the series. If you have not yet seen the show, come back to this anime later.
You're meant to know the events from the series and this movie builds on that. The series is excellent and will be well worth your time. Animation was bad.
And the funny thing is there is a question on their web-site if we liked it or not. It was horrible. I bought a blu-ray in order to see details in The Sacred Star of Milos. I just liked the animation of background but Ed was weird. His hair was like a jelly. And I wonder the people whoever watch The Sacred Star of Milos and liked it if they can really see or not.
Anyway, The Sacred Star of Milos was bad. I couldn't feel the soul of FMA. I was thinking about this one. And I saw that everything was great. The story, quality of animation and the soul. I recommend everybody to watch. In terms of FMA's atmosphere, you can still feel what you felt before thanks to this the movie.
It made me happy in brief. After watching the original FMA series and feeling disappointed with it's ending I immediately watched this movie which was suppose to bring the series to a conclusion. However I feel that the conclusion to this movie left me feeling even more unsatisfied than what the series offered and had me feeling confused with more unanswered questions.
The problem with this movie is not only the ending but the writing and run time. It was dull, boring, dragged on too long and felt like a poorly written fanfiction. Nothing interesting happens and the action is lacking.
What a waste of nearly 2 hours. Both among devoted FmA fans and critics, "Conqueror of Shamballa" is often criticized, with some going so far as calling it an unworthy film in the franchise. Personally, I am having a hard time seeing why anyone would dislike it that much. I consider it far superior to "The Sacred Star of Milos", as it manages to keep the feel of Fullmetal Alchemist despite mostly taking place in our world.
It's not a perfect movie for example, the antagonist leaves a lot to be desired, and the CGI is at times quite annoying , but highly entertaining.
The filmmakers weren't afraid of making difficult choices, and the end result is a gorgeous film that certainly satisfied my desire for further Elric adventures. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoyed either of the two anime series or the manga.
An excellent film ending to Fullmetal Alchemist, featuring the Elric Brothers trapped in different worlds trying to find a way to reunite after a two year separation. The older brother Edward is in Munich Germany in , mixing with historic figures and Nazis, while the younger brother Alphonse is wandering around his world to find a way to reach Ed. Various characters, both old and new appear to either lend a hand, cause trouble or just be there to please fans.
However, I strongly recommend moviegoers who have not watched the television show to watch it first before watching this movie. Although the opening five minutes and the opening credits do explain the story of the show, later parts in the film may confuse viewers who have not watched the show beforehand. This film has excellent voice acting, animation and an awesome soundtrack!
SkullyD 1 May Conquerer of Shamballa shows what happens when creators of an Anime fail to understand what their fans want. I as a fan did not want a 's Evil Nazi movie. I also would have liked to get Ed back to his world much sooner and have him stay there, to finally get a chance to be normal. You know, raise a family with a certain blonde mechanic, that sort of thing.
No, instead I got a convoluted plot involving Nazi mystics, Fritz Lang and about ten minutes of Al, a joke of a Cameo by Roy Mustang and only one Armstrong joke, one short joke and no Winry hitting Ed with a wrench. Above all, it just didn't feel like Fullmetal Alchemist to me. Toire 4 September For those of you left unsatisfied with the ending to the 50 some odd run of The Fullmetal Alchemist. FA The Movie gives a believable, if not entirely desirable, conclusion to the Elric brothers alchemical journey.
For those unfamiliar with Fullmetal Alchemist, knowledge of the series isn't necessary to enjoy the movie. Come see what happens when the Black Gate is thrown wide open and what the brothers will have to do shut it once and for all.
This is very much a look through the dark side of the looking glass. The more everything seems the same, the more it differs from what the Elrics knew to be true.
In the end, all may not be as it should be, but it is just and acceptable by the laws of alchemy. Syndicateman 8 March First off, I am critical of this movie because I really had high hopes and instead, this movie sucked. Well, let's start at the quality. The movie was barely better than the original TV series and the two fight scenes were very nicely crafted.
However the CGI was horrid. Then there is the plot holes and questions that still remain after the whole movie is all said and done. This movie does not close off as a successful conclusion to a very broad universe known as FMA and only returns to expand the universe more before leaving us with nothing but our imaginations to decipher what would happen in the future. And then there is the stories biggest fault.
The series was perfect It didn't even need Germany. Overall the entire movie was sorely lacing in what a true FMA movie could have been and if I were the directors, I'd scrap CoS and make a new, more "ending", ending.
I will say this now - I thoroughly enjoyed the Full Metal Alchemist series. This makes me biased, but I think my bias is because it was well written, acted and brought to life. I enjoyed The Conqueror of Shamballa for many of the same reasons.
The plot is believable yes, there was a Thule Society, and yes, they were into the occult , and the characters have additions that would naturally occur over two years. Envy's story is one of the biggest changes. The Fullmetal Alchemist anime depicted this Homunculus as a serpent-like creation, who wanted to find its father through the Gate of Truth, but the final form of Brotherhood 's Envy is a one-eyed blob who eventually takes its own life, consumed by its own jealousy.
When the first Fullmetal Alchemist anime began to cover its own original material, the story had yet to reveal its true villain, so was forced into concocting a fresh antagonist - a mysterious woman called Dante. Centuries old, Dante was the lover of the Elric brothers' father, Hohenheim. The couple managed to continuously cheat death using philosopher's stones, but after Hohenheim dumped Dante for Trisha Elric, his ex resorted to using Homunculi as her minions, promising she could restore their human forms.
After Dante's quest for eternal life is exposed, she's killed by her own servant, Gluttony, who she previously sent on a mindless eating rampage. Dante doesn't exist in Brotherhood or the original manga, and the main villain is instead revealed to be Father - the original Homunculus. Similar to the anime but without the romance angle, Edward and Alphonse 's dad is much older than he seems, and was once a slave to an alchemist who created Father based on Hohenheim's blood.
Father took on a life of its own and conspired to ensure that the entire country of Xerxes would be sacrificed to provide him with a proper physical form. Thrown into the bargain, Hohenheim himself is made immortal, although he had no knowledge of the conspiracy and later devotes his life to defeating Father. As the main protagonists of Fullmetal Alchemist , Edward and Alphonse Elric aren't substantially altered between the two anime series.
The brothers' designs, personalities and motivations remain largely consistent, with most of the changes happening around them rather than to them. With that said, there are a few alterations to Ed and Al's personal stories and characterizations. For example, the State Alchemist exam is a proper exam in the earlier Fullmetal Alchemist anime.
Ed trains for the occasion under Shou Tucker and then sits a proper test alongside other budding candidates. Ed's prodigal talent gets the better of the situation in Brotherhood - all the tiny alchemist does to attain his qualification is transmute a spear and threaten King Bradley with it.
The extent of the Elric brothers' abilities is also slightly altered between anime series. In the iteration, Ed is capable of performing alchemy without the need to draw a transmutation circle, making him one of the most talented in his field.
Alphonse, on the other hand, still needs to draw regular transmutation circles, at least until he obtains the power of a philosopher's stone. In Brotherhood , however, both Elric brothers can perform circle-less alchemy thanks to their dabbling in human transmutation. Although Ed and Al don't change significantly, plenty of other Fullmetal Alchemist characters do.
Generally speaking, Brotherhood moves at a faster pace, despite having a higher episode count, which means that the anime series takes more time to explore certain figures. Edward and Alphonse's mother Trisha is a prime example, with far greater color to her character in the edition.
In Brotherhood , Trisha is more of a plot device to get the Fullmetal Alchemist story rolling. In the same vein, the Elric brothers develop stronger bonds with Maes Hughes and his family than they do in Brotherhood , and even help deliver the man's child.
After appearing early in the story, Rose is more important in the original anime, as Dante plans to use the girl as a brand new vessel. Conversely, some Fullmetal Alchemist characters enjoy more significant roles in Brotherhood , most notably Riza, whose connection to Mustang is explored in more detail, and Tim Marcoh, who is killed by Gluttony in the first anime, but enjoys a much bigger role in Brotherhood.
Unfortunately for him, the rules of Equivalent Exchange are immutable. Yoki is one of the villains, but only he is arrogant enough to think he has any influence, whatsoever. He spends most of the series working under Scar, and being disciplined for acting like he was better than other people. On the other hand, the chimeras, Darius and Heinkel, fight for the right side, especially after Ed saves them from their previous boss, Kimblee. In fact, Kimblee's fate is sealed when Heinkel uses his Lion form to rip his throat out.
It is hard to imagine a stranger group of colleagues, but it seems that Yoki, Darius, and Heinkel manage to find a job at a circus after the war, where they have become friends, sort of. For his part in the victory against the Homunculi, he is promoted to Brigadier-General and begins one of the toughest jobs of all: creating a foreign trade network between his nation and the East.
In fact, Mustang becomes a General at a later point, and even grows a mustache that he only thinks he can pull off. As expected, his close friend and personal adjutant remains the same: Riza Hawkeye.
Alphonse has his old body back, so he dismantles his armor suit into spare parts for others to use, which is not really surprising given his overwhelming generosity. Two years later, he is seen meeting with his friends, Zampano and Jerso, at a coffee shop, where he tells them of his plan to travel east. They are curious about this decision, so Alphonse elaborates that he wants to learn alkahestry under May's tutelage.
They all travel to Xing together, as Jerso and Zampano hope that alkahestry might somehow revert them into purely human form. Unsurprisingly, Edward finds his lack of alchemical ability frustrating, but instead of moping about in a puddle of self-pity, he realizes that he can still learn more about it even if he can't use it. As his little brother is traveling East, he goes West, towards the ruins of Xerxes and beyond, in order to study as much as possible about this strange blend of science and art.
Right before Edward leaves, though, he proposes to Winry in his typical way: by suggesting they transfer half their lives according to the principle of Equivalent Exchange. As a contender to the Xingese throne, Prince Ling of the Yao clan goes in search of the one thing that could prevent him from being killed by assassins as well as give him sole rights to the throne.
He does receive a Philosopher's Stone at the end but is kind enough to offer it to Ed as a means of payment to fix Alphonse's situation.
